Garlic-Herb Turkey Burgers
Ali Segersten
If you're navigating an elimination diet and looking for simple, satisfying meals the whole family will love, these garlic-herb turkey burgers are a staple worth keeping on repeat. They're quick to prepare, deeply nourishing, and easy to pair with a variety of vegetables for a balanced, anti-inflammatory meal.
I often make turkey burgers once a week—especially during warmer months when lighter, grill-friendly meals feel just right. We love wrapping them in crisp lettuce leaves or tender napa cabbage instead of buns. This not only keeps them grain-free and low in inflammatory triggers, but also makes them easier to digest. Of course, my growing kids, who are always hungry and active, sometimes opt for a hearty gluten-free bun for the extra carbs!
I recommend looking for organic ground turkey, ideally from your local co-op or natural foods store. It’s often stocked in the freezer section. For a little variation, I’ll sometimes skip the chopped herbs and instead mix in a tablespoon or two of Thai curry paste and swap the parsley for fresh cilantro. This version is bursting with flavor and always a big hit with my kids!
Pair these burgers with baked sweet potato fries if you're following the Full Elimination Diet, or oven-roasted russet potato fries if you’ve moved into reintroduction. We love seasoning them with smoked paprika, garlic powder, sea salt, and a drizzle of avocado oil. In the summertime, grilled zucchini or summer squash from the garden adds a vibrant, nourishing touch. I often use a cast iron grill pan right on the stovetop for convenience.
Round out the meal with a fresh garden salad tossed in a homemade dressing to support detoxification and digestive balance. With clean proteins, fiber-rich veggies, and anti-inflammatory herbs, this meal truly supports your healing journey—one delicious bite at a time.
